Inspiration

Our inspiration came from a very respected Kaumatua who gave a lot of his time helping many people in need, not only in Melbourne but all over Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, this beautiful kaumatua fell ill and before his passing he called my cousin and I to his bedside. He spoke of a group of people who were coming to Melbourne. He said their mahi is needed here for our community and that we were to awhi whoever it was to come.

It has been a long journey, we are very proud and honoured to be here this day to Tautoko our community during a time of loss and sadness.

TAUTOKO – Meaning: In this sense Tautoko simply means support, be of service

A similar word such as AWHINA, awhi means to help, assist, aid and service.
